It was quiet at George Floyd Square as I took photographs around the area. A giant steel fist raised up over the square, murals of George, street painting, messages, and flowers. A little girl in a red jacket stopped in front of a large black & white mural of Floyd. She had come with her parents from Ohio to pay their respects. Two sisters posed in front of a brightly painted mural of Floyd. They had lived in the area years ago and came back to lay flowers at the square. I think of prosecutor Jerry Blackwell’s description of the group of bystanders that tried to help George Floyd calling them a “bouquet of humanity”. Without them this would have been another tragically unnecessary end to a man’s life with no consequences.
